Jimmy Reacts to Kimmel's Suspension After FCC Pressure; Trump Wraps Up U.K. Visit | The Tonight Show (youtube.com)
Jimmy Fallon's.

Kinda funny little skit, but very brief, and he moved on to harmless unfunny jokes again. Most would probably expect that though, it is the Tonight Show after all.

The end of all dictators (although Trump isn't at this point a dictator at all, he may be moving into the realm of 'autocrat' or weilding or trying to weild that set of powers) is when people stand up to them. What feeds their growth is that each person, separate from other people, sees it as in his interest to make a deal with the dictator, even though it would be better for many of those individuals if they unified and didn't make a deal with the dictator. The more people who make such a deal, the harder it is to oppose. The more people who make such a deal, the smaller is the core of opposition, and the harder is their struggle, since they struggle against a unified dictatorial system and also against people who have already compromised themselves and now are motivated to justify that compromise and to oppose those who haven't compromised. They will twist their self concept in doing so. ... However, when people oppose, the dictator has to act to punish them, firing them or whatever and they are then oppressed, and they band together with other oppressed. The masses also see the punishment act of the dictator and that it is unfair, contrary to their system and their values, and cruel, and the dictator loses support and opposition mounts. ... A successful dictator manages to move past these hindrances quick enough that he conquers enough sociocultural territory he can't be challenged.

When the dictator has to punish opposition unjustly, this also involves forcing the individuals doing the actual firing or cancelling to not just be a silent non opposition to the dictator but actually do his bidding which they know is doing wrong. This creates tension and it forces people to turn against him, because they are no longer just chosing comfort by supporting him, but have to endure discomfort either way.

This is one of the reasons it's so great to teach Civics at school. The people are comfortable and prepared to deal with the political developments of their era. They already know many of the issues and aren't caught off guard and need time to prepare to deal with an infringment in politics, because the infringer might be fast.

There might also be an element of having wanted to fire talk show hosts and others for a long time, and simply not feeling they could fire them. We saw this in tech a couple years ago, when there were massive rounds of firings and layoffs, a break from years of allowing expensive hires to just come into work and do whatever they wanted, DEI, HR, etc.

‘The challenge,’ Friedburg said on the All In lame pod this week, ‘was did he say something that he knew to be not true and declare it as fact?’ FCC chair said he was doing news distortion.

The game now at the All In is, at what point will each of these four come out with an actual ‘against' statement regarding the White House.
