A receipt isn't enough, they demanded a drivers license just to do returns now. They scan the drivers license. They don't just check it to see if it's you. It does show them your home address and birthday, and obviously your full legal name and drivers license number.
If this is to stop serial returners, why not just visually check the ID?
The woman they interviewed rejected Toys R Us's demand for her ID, and just kept the toys she wanted to retern, so she wouldn't have to give up her personal info to strangers and their computer system.
The bigger the store chain, the more power to demand. No Walmart and Superstore, lots of options.
