The FBI Arrested A Major Tor Node Operator (youtube.com)
His wife said that in 2019 the Feds came to the guy to ask him to help them decrypt Tor traffic. Because he rejected them, they decided to charge him with the computer fraud charge from 2014 (just a few months before the statute of limitations). Part of his original pretrial release (not charged with anything yet, it seems) included allowing device monitoring by the state (internet is a basic human right though). He downloaded Tor and some other security stuff and also seached ‘nambla' (he said for a paper he was working on, which is probable because the website is old and defunt now, says MO). They then held him in jail for 3 years. He was eventually assigned a PO who was hostile, and conducted illegal searches of their house and property, harassed their business clients, etc, the wife alleged. Part of his later arrest has to do with testing positive for marijuana and for having a non monitored phone. In a later arrest they stormed his house like a military platoon with machine guns, and even refused to show the warrant they must have had. Rockenhaus.com

If this isn't state oppression what is?

Commenter. ‘I like how the 4th amendment is just ignored for in the context of digital devices, got to love it.’

'She's a keeper. Remote wiping your devices when the Feds kick in the door should be in the wedding vows.'

‘The real crime here is the government trying to decrypt TOR traffic.’

'All this and the fed can't do a damn thing about f-ing robo calls. What a waste of tax dollars.'

‘The feds have no interest in any crime commited. They just want to swallow all the data to blackmail politicians 50 years from now.’

‘One is always guilty in the eyes of the government’

'Commiting a digital crime is literally worse than violent crime in some cases. It's crazy.'

'There's no such thing as an innocent man, given how asininely convoluted our legal code is. Therefore we are all selectively guilty of the real crime of failing to cooperate with the government's illegal activity.'

'There is no reason to think he even did those searches .
Remember that the FBI crime lab has been caught faking evidence, so many times that it implicates the evidence they presented on tens of thousands of cases.'

'I'm not defending or excusing any sort of criminality. That said, I was married to a cop and lived with a family of cops for thirty years, and my takeaway is that I can't stand cops and think they're worse than the vast majority of civilian criminals. You cannot hire dumb people, invest the authority of the state in them, send them to deal within the worst parts of society, and expect good outcomes. Broad power for police is a terrible system. Civilians think the police are there to protect and serve, but the main purposes of the police are to secure more special rights and privileges for the police, and to secure more funding for the police. Those are their two main purposes today. Everything else is secondary. We The People need a new plan.'
