‘We are all Jimmy Kimmel.' Seems like a lot of citizens are behind this. Will the country be divided more because of this? I doubt it. Seems more likely Americans on Trumps side generally will not agree with the cancellation or silencing of speech either. The circle of support could get smaller. And fairly certainly the gain that the Trump/Republican party got under Biden, in that all podcasters sided with and gave a voice to the oppressed conservatives, will shift and be for the liberals.

A lot of countries and corporations have already complied with Trump's demands. The term used in the culture right now for this is ‘bended the knee’ or ‘sued for peace.’ Trump played this smart, moving really quickly, and really mixing things up so no one could even get a footing before they had to make decisions. The best strategy for the countries and corporations, though, would have been to stall or delay, to express friendly interest in making a deal favorable to Trump, but really just giving some time, because in new autocratic governments eventually the harms are inflicted, everyone opposes, but everyone finds it very hard to reverse course or unify. If the parties can just delay a year or two, what a situation really is will be visible and they can make an appropriate response while at the same time having support from the citizens everywhere.

Kimmel's comments about Kirk were described by the FCC chair Brendan Carr, who went on a podcast, as ‘the sickest conduct possible.’ Doesn't seem to have much concept of proportionality for a department leader. ‘I thnk it’s really been past time that a lot of these licenced broadcasters themselves push back on Comcast and Disney and say "Listen, we are going to preempt, we are not going to run Kimmel anymore until you straighten this out. I mean, look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way.'

Following Carr's appearance, Nexstar said they would preempt the Kimmel series for the immediate future. Coincidentally, Nexstar has a major merger coming up before the Trump admin. That's how deals get done, baby. Give something and get something. Disney also needs Trump admin's greenlight to buy the NFL netowork (ESPN deal).
Colbert also showed some tweets Carr had made under Trump. ‘From internet memes to late night comedians... Political Satire... helps hold those in power accountable. Shuttind down this type of political speech, especially at the urging of those targeted or threatened by its message, would represent a serious threat to our freedoms.’
Car tweeted ‘While this may be an unprecendented decision, it is important for broadcasters to push back on Disney programming that they determine falls short of community values.’
Trump on Sept 18 said ‘When you have a network and you have evening shows, and all they do is hit trump. That’s all they do. If you go back, I guess they haven't had a conservative on in years or something, somebody said. But when you go back and take a look, all they do is hit Trump. They're licensed. They're not allowed to do that.' It's a valid point, that liberals unevenly influence the culture because all the media is liberal, and has been for decades. Everyone lamented that by the time Trump was elected. It a big part of the reason podcasts went big and took over from network news and other programs. And this development has to be seen in the light of a reaction to serious, inescapable largescale injustice by liberals against conservatives for many years.
Trump obviously doesn't have a point about ‘they’re not allowed to do that.' It's just unfair that they do that.

At least liberals now have something to talk about. That hasn't happened in a long time. And they'll maybe start behaving better, because no one behaves as well as someone who has to get votes from the masses.
