Since 1931 (partially due to the Tommy Gun and sawed off shotguns) the NFA was made to psuedo-constitutionally restrict some weapons, which because they can't constitutionally do it to the guns, they made a $200 tax and regulated the tax, so these politicians in Texas worked to eliminate the tax, making all those things legal.
DOJ hasn't yet responded, basically, it seems.

People are not sure about whether they really want silencers out there so much, though, so there will be work on this issue yet.
