The imposters usually pose as government employees.
The scammers want your private info and your banking info. These communications often appear legit, a government agent calling you. They even now advise citizens to never answer their phones, even from the government. Do not click anything in an email, even from the government. (By the way, even if you check the email sender address and it is a legit government address, the government is often hacked because they don't do proper security (and can't, by the way, because of the limitations of their employees), so a real government email could contain a malware link, potentially). If you get a call, check your messages and if it's the government call them. However, you might not be able to get through their phone machine maze.
