How Private Equity Gutted Local Malls: Joann Fabrics, Red Lobster, Claire's, and More. (youtube.com)
If I remember, this kind of thing was how Warren got famous in like the 80s or 90s. Private equity's plan, when it buys these stores or chains, is to run the company to bankrupcy, she theorizes.
She tells the story of Toys R' Us, the scheme, basically, used by the buyers to turn the company into profit and destroy the company.
While the company goes bankrupt, the CEOs etc and the private equity owner all do great. So is there a problem with this, from a polity level?
I wonder what her take on Amazon is?
