You only have to watch TV series episodes that covered it at the time to see how horrible it was. Complete social ostrization, fear, abhorence, and basically justified, but so terrible. And documentaries for the gritty situation. It also has caused a massive change in behavior for decades, so that behaviour can perhaps revert if progress continues.
$28k is a fine price for this. For however many year (I don't think it's too many) they get their patent protected. But the price is high, higher than the minimum wage in the US, I think, so maybe they'll consider lowering it in a non corporate decision.
After you make your number ($10mil or $100mil, whatever, each owner of the company), I'd guess just helping one person more would be worth more than any further million, but maybe not?
