When historians are unpopular...
She's from the east of Germany, where Germans are most disaffected, which she compares with Northern England, and people say well you report on the East Germany and that's not representative of how Germans feel and think, but after a few years it turns out they were just first or quickest to respond, because now all Germany feels that way. Eastern anomalies are now part of the national story.
People feel politicians should be doing political change on a level that's quite drastic, quite bold, and they're seeing tinkering from politicians and the people are angry.
Figures that would have been shocking in East Germany a few years ago, like 20% support for the far right parties, are now what's seen in western German elections.
Not disimilar to the 1920s.
