‘We have to make Canada safe for women and children.’ Nevermind that domestic violence is usually reciprocal, and when it's one-sided, it's slightly more likely to be the woman using violence against the man.
What is the motivation for this, actually? Is it that Canadians are just stupid about the issue? Or is it to create crimes which make payments (to institutions, people, jobs) necessary?
Of all the types of ‘crimes’, domestic abuse is probably the most likely to be abused (weaponized, ie false allegations because it's just a simple trick people can use againts each other).
In Ontario, if you're denied bail, you just sit in a cell with others for weeks or months. 70-80% of people in cells are just awaiting trails. A high percentage (over 50%) are found not guilty or the charges are withdrawn.
