You can see why people are tending towards militancy and extremism. People 'going rogue' and taking individual violent action. If the people in power don't respect the rules or the citizens, what demand can you really put on individuals? If the entire system is so corrupt that no legal means can modify it, and in fact only strengthens it, what demand can there be for respecting the rules? The civilization becomes the jungle. The original source of this all is the allowing of the interests of the powerful/government to become distinct from the interests of the citizens. The system must include a way to wed and constrain the interests of governors to the interests of the citizenry.
Yet, the federal government(s) keep pushing and pushing. Their response isn't to listen to or serve the citizens, but to clamp down on them, censor them, criminalize them.
