Joe Rogan Experience #2190 - Peter Thiel (youtube.com)

One of Thiel's points is that if you were to mention 'technology' in 1967, you would have been talking about rockets, nuclear, maybe underwater cities, and tons of other things. Physical tech. Everything that at the time seemed to be progressing. Today if you say 'technology' you usually just mean information technology. Everything else has basically slowed. People are also constantly distracted from the fact that things haven't changed in their surroundings in 100 years, distracted by their phones.

If things hadn't been limited, and all progress had green lights, supersonic and hypersonic vehicles, small nuclear reactors, maybe everything would already be blown up, Thiel noted.

In the 80s, computer science was inferior to other studies, lots of people went into engineering, but 40 years later all those fields have been regulated out of progress. Only Computer Science works.

So technology (information technology) could also just become regulated out of progress.
