The young American (Kansas) Jew here says, ‘In no way have I ever or will I ever refer to the Palestinian people as my enemy. Cause the Palestinian people are my cousins, they’re my neighbors. It's my job to love and care and embrace every truly innocent Palestinian, and then the ones who do not fall into that category, who are part of a terrorist organization or are part of the anti Semetic view that wanna cause me and my family, I see you as another one of the generational enemies of the Jewish people who are going to rise up, and are going to fall.' (Referring to a Jewish teaching that every generation someone will rise up to try to kill the Jews.)
Maybe a perfect example of the strength of Christianity, which is the only religeon that goes beyond treating well your allies, to loving your enemies. Young people often question this part of it, and even wise old people question whether it's really possible.
The Palestinian man made a good point, that part of his frustration was exactly because it was with Jews, who should know what the oppressed experience is like, because the Jews have had centuries of it. ‘If the Jews did something to the Nazis who would call them a terrorist? The Germans would. But to the Jews or to other peaceloving, humane people, they would be freedom fighters.’
The young Jewish guy, though, said, ‘I want to establish a distinction between you [the Palestinian man] and Hamas. I would love to build a country with you. I can’t build a country with someone who says “I want October 7 to happen again and again.”'
People will support the warriors on their side if they think they're at risk, even if they have disdain for those warriors, said the mediator.
